It was a starry night on the sixth day of the twelfth month and the frost did lay thick upon the ground when the Mallock Club members did sally forth to the darkest parts of Buckinghamshire for a banquet fit for the medieval times that they did try to pursue. Some sixteen souls searched diligently for the site of the stables, for lo, there was to be much merriment and displays of fine horsemanship and jesting to accompany the vitals. In full regalia some poor souls were so distracted by the guiding star that they enquired within a local inn as to where this fulsome attraction was to be held. For so, the inn keeper seeing their attire knew without question where these poor souls were to be directed and they continued on their way rejoicing that their search was nearly fulfilled.

The guests were welcomed and announced by the court jester as they arrived and being true to their Mallock Club associations made their way to the lowly area known as “The Bar” to advance gifts of silver in exchange for liquid sustenance to clear the throat after their weary and cold journeys. As can be seen from the etchings the men folk and ladies created a vista to sooth the eye in all their finery.

Some buxom wenches did bring food forth to our tables for we were indeed needy of such sustenance. T’was while we did eat drink that much entertainment was brought before our eyes in the form such skills and horsemanship displayed as we had never seen before. B’tween these displays the court jester did also entertain us much with his merry japes and by engaging some of those seated at tables to join him in tasks both daring and amusing.

As will be seen from the etchings that do accompany this, money changed hands not only for the granting of absolution as can be seen but also for the commencement of a new chariot of Clubmans to be created in the county of Northampton. A vexatious period of contemplation has given birth to this creation, drawn upon parchment for instructions, as can be seen. T’is certainly a wondrous device to defeat all rivals and will bring forth desire amongst all those whose eyes fall upon it.

As the evening grew long the proceedings did come to an exuberant conclusion with a full jousting match and a fight to the death by Knights of the realm from countries adjoined to our sceptred isle including that country owned by our King at this time, France. Having ensured that good overcame evil and having taken of sufficient wine we did gird up our loins and tread sadly away, by a different path, to our humble abodes scattered across the counties of this land.

A truly wondrous time was had by all.
