The Mallock Club

The Fun Rally 2005

Report by Martin Covill

A big thank-you to all the participants for a magnificent and enthusiastic response to the first Club Rally. You will be pleased to know that the event was won by The Booteleggers (Dave and Sue Boote) who completed the 2 hours 45 minute course in 2 hours and 46 minutes incurring zero time penalty points. Webbs Wonders (Alan and his wife) top scored on the observation section and received the special Tony Pouyanne silver phantom trophy, Two Ewes (Richard and Sue Mallock) won the 'Hawk Eye' special navigation award and Archbishop Kebab (Nick Covill and Rachel Sutcliffe) won the coveted cuillère en bois trophy.

For some reason the well known Argentinean racing ace Marco Charterissio got himself into the winners photograph to show off the radio controlled rocket he won in the tombola. (that's South Americans for you!)

The course took us over 60 miles of Cambridgeshire including the wilds of the Fens and the Studs and racecourses of Newmarket. Thanks to ex-Mallock owner and hotelier Peter Hobday we enjoyed a wonderful supper at the Rutland Arms Hotel after the event.

Despite the low entry fees we managed to make a small profit of around £100 for Club funds, subject to the treasurer's scrutiny! Based on  the comments of all those who took part we hope to make the Fun Rally an annual event.
