The Mallock Club

Le Mans - 2007

The Mallock Club made its second foray to Le Mans in 2007 following the successful expedition on 06 a larger party trundled down to Le Sarthe expecting a repeat of the good weather that might be associated with France in the summer. The advance party crossed the Channel on the Tuesday night prior to the race arriving to find that the rain had already started. The motor homes and tents were set up and the 10 metre awning which was to act as club HQ was erected. A 99€ fridge was purchased as in the previous year there had been complaints about the beer not being cold enough.

But then the rain continued and continued some more and unsuccessful attempts were made to divert the water, now running across the site, away from the awning. By Thursday the winds picked and so the HQ was moved and the motor homes were repositioned in an attempt to protect it from the gusts of winds that now blew threatening to lift it from it’s moorings.

This weather pattern continued for most of the week but as can be seen from the photographs failed to dull the British spirit and while we were dealing with the mud on our dedicated site it was as nothing compared to the public camp sites.

Friday evening saw a convoy of members set out to Chateau-du-Loir  to eat at the famous Hotel de France for an excellent evening. This hotel is renowned as a haunt of racing teams and drivers who used the facilities in previous years and even now famous faces pop in for old time’s sake.

And so it rained for most of the race and indeed the last hour was run behind the pace car, all but the last lap, such was the deluge. The RML team did not have good race suffering accident damage quite early on and then retiring with further damage from collisions.

Came Monday morning and although the rain had stopped we had to decamp in somewhat poor conditions and dampened spirits. We did say that we would not go again but since then we thought that maybe it could not be that bad twice. Could it?
